Little Free Libraries

In partnership with Friends of the Portsmouth Public Library (FPPL), we are offering teens from around the City of Portsmouth an opportunity to participate in an international movement, placing small libraries in communities around the city.

Little Free Libraries are small collections of books curated by the local community. They are placed inside a ‘little free library’ which is often a piece of art, reflecting the library’s location, heritage, community or style.

Through participation in this global program, our goal is to help make reading accessible to the youth around the city – particularly in ‘book deserts‘ –¬†and to share their creative passion for the community in the libraries they decorate or design.

Partners in this project can be local schools, business owners, private citizens, faith-based organizations and community centers. We are also looking for supplies, wood workers, painters and other support to make this project a reality in 2015.

If you are a resident, business, organization or place of worship in the city of Portsmouth, Virginia you can download and complete the application for a GYA Little Free Library
